I am sure you all know by now that the presidential elections which were scheduled to hold in a few days on February 14 has now been postponed till March 28th due to “security concerns”. From what I gather from INEC chairman Atahirru Jega’s press conference yesterday those 6 weeks are needed by the Government to fight Islamic insurgency group – Boko Haram.
I am convinced that the elections will be postponed again but I hope I am proven wrong.
The VP candidate of The APC party Professor Yemi Osinbajo appeared on “The Discourse” with Jimi Disu on Classic 97.3 FM less than an hour ago he said,
My personal reaction was one of disgust. I was disgusted that govt. chose to be so devious.
He also said if the president has lost the capacity to secure the nation he should be impeached,
If the president says I’ve lost the capacity to guarantee the security of lives and property, it’s certainly an impeachable offense
He went on to say,
There has never been 100% PVC collection. Ekiti & Osun states; less than 60%. All of a sudden, the Govt. is concerned? PVC collection in Adamawa & Yobe, where there is insurgency, is over 70%. We’re becoming accustomed to the impunity of this Govt. & I think it’s so sad that they would go against the wishes of the people. It’s ironic that in many countries where insurgencies happen, & elections go on, Nigerian troops keep the peace there. All former Heads of States agreed: if the insurgencies are happening in 14 LGAs, surely the elections can go on?More news on www.updatenaija.com
